The IWM is an independent institute for advanced study founded in 1982 as a center for international and interdisciplinary research in the humanities and social sciences. Their public events aim at contributing to ongoing debates on present issues and challenges of society.
The IWM has been organizing the Political Salons in co-operation with the Austrian daily newspaper Die Presse since 2004. They host personalities from academia, politics, culture and the media in this discussion forum. Their past guests included e.g. Ralf Dahrendorf, Bernard Lewis, Zbigniew Brzezinski or Kurt Biedenkopf.
